Randwick Racecourse Carpark
The new three level carpark is positioned over the existing day stalls, accessed via a spiral vehicle ramp at its western end, close to existing access from Ascot Street. It is split along its length into staggered half levels, linked cross-wise with internal stacked ramps. The lower halves face the neighbouring dwellings, the lowest of which served by the spiral vehicle ramp, limiting its run. The upper halves are over the open side of the day stalls.
The carpark’s position allows for pedestrian links to other buildings in the precinct, the owners’ pavilion and the main grandstand. These links are achieved with lifts and stairs within a pod-like structure, designed to be an ethereal sculpture inserted into the grandstand forecourt. Further pedestrian access and egress is provided by three cylindrical stair structures placed along the northern façade outside the carpark. The stairs also allow easy access to the roof for cleaning and maintenance.
