The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPA) Redevelopment Project represented a generational opportunity to redefine one of Australia’s most significant health precincts. The initiative expanded beyond functional enhancements, laying out a visionary masterplan that aligns with the Sydney Local Health District’s goals for a sustainable, connected campus.

Anchored by a thoughtful design strategy and core principles, the project envisions clinical efficiency, community integration, and environmental stewardship as central tenets.

Completed in collaboration with Tonkin Zulaikha Greer Architects, and Spackman Mossop Landscape the proposal offered a two-part framework: a contextual analysis establishing the masterplan vision and a detailed road map for the initial redevelopment phase.

Key moves include transforming Missenden Road into a tranquil, green heart; introducing a pedestrian promenade; creating interconnected green spaces; and developing a 14-story Northern Wing with a dedicated Women’s Health Entry. The design approach also respects heritage elements, responding to the “Connecting with Country” framework while integrating contemporary healthcare needs.

This comprehensive vision ensures RPA’s evolution into a campus that exemplifies healthcare excellence and innovation. By weaving sustainability, heritage, and connectivity into its fabric, the project reimagines RPA as more than a hospital—it becomes a vital civic hub and a model for future health precincts.
